Long overdue birth story

It's been a while and I never posted a birth story, so I have some catching up to do...which is hard now that I have a baby!

Liam Thomas Leslie Hassen was born on June 14th, 2010 at 2:00 pm and weighed a whopping 9 lbs. 6 oz. and was 22.5 inches long! I had an appt on Thursday, June 10th for an u/s to measure the baby and make a plan. He was estimated to be about 8 lbs. 12 0z. and had a big belly! Our doctor and us decided that the best thing was to schedule a c-section for Tuesday, June 15th since he was measuring so big and a normal delivery could be risky. We went to a baseball game that night and enjoyed the weekend as our last alone time together. Sunday night at midnight my water broke and we went to the hospital. I was so glad that I got to experience my water breaking and the rush to pack everything up and get to the hospital. The nurse checked me when we arrived and I was not even dialted a centimeter and my doctor was not on call so we decided to wait until 7:30 am when the nurses could call her. We decided to try a vaginal birth since my water had broke so she started me on Pitocin to get things moving along. Contractions were horrible with the Pitocin so I asked for the epidural which my doctor said I could have at any time...I'm so glad I decided on getting the epidural. At 1:00 pm she came back to check on me and I was only dialted a centimeter. They had given me all the pitocin they could give me and I was having regular contractions two minutes apart but nothing was happening. They got me ready and wheeled me down to the operating room. Les came in shortly after I was prepped and ready to go and at 2:00 pm our little boy was born. I remember my husband saying, "Babe, he's so beautiful!" and I remember throwing up after he was out and the whole time they were putting me back together, but most of it was a blur. My nurse, Amy, was amazing and most of the nurses there were. He didn't sleep at all during the nights we were in the hospital and breastfeeding was hard since he was so big and so hungry, so it was a rough start. I actually cried when we had to leave because I knew how hard it was going to be on our own. I don't think I knew how hard it would be especially at night without any nurses there to help out so we could get some sleep. Every week is a little better and I know I will look back on these early days of his life and want another baby someday but for right now we are looking forward to a little more sleep!
Below are some pictures of Liam's birthday.

Going in!

Handsome Boy

We are all doing great and adjusting well as a family of three. Our dog, Maya, has been better than we could have expected and Liam is her baby. She loves to lick him and howl to let me know he is crying. We can't wait to watch him grow!
